An astronomer says a bright spiralling light spotted in the sky by people across eastern Australia was probably a satellite, space junk or a rocket.
The UFO was seen moving through the sky just before Saturday's sunrise in New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT.
ABC News Online has received dozens of emails, pictures and videos from those who claim to have witnessed the huge white light.
Some described it as a "lollipop-type swirl". Others say it hovered for a while before gradually moving in an eastern direction until it was out of sight. Those who saw the object say photos do not reflect how large it actually was.
Gfrey Whyatt from the Sydney Observatory says it was probably a satellite, space junk or a rocket.
"The fact that you've got the rotation, the spiral effect, is very reminiscent of the much widely reported sightings from Norway and Russia last year, which both turned out to be a Bulava missile which was being adjusted in its orbit," he said.

The clips were handed to the Sirius UFO Space Science Research Centre in Turkey who interviewed witnesses and painstakingly combed through the footage frame by frame.
International UFO researcher Haktan Akdogan said: "In this amazing video footage, physical forms of UFOs and their metallic structures are clearly noticeable.
"What is more important is that in the close-up of some footages of the objects, entities in them can be distinctly made out."
He continues: "We have spoken with all of the witnesses and had detailed analysis conducted on all two-and-a-half hours of footage.
"After conducting all of the analysis we came to the conclusion that this video footage is 100 per cent genuine.
"The objects filmed are structured objects and are not the result of misidentification or natural phenomena, aircraft or astronomical objects.
"They are not the results either of any kind of computer animation. Now is it a time for world governments to acknowledge the reality of UFOs."
He added: "The images captured on film are expected to have a tremendous impact throughout the world and they are the most important UFO images ever caught on camera."
The footage will be revealed at the UFO Data Magazine annual conference in Pontefract, West Yorks, on October 25.

UFO Data Magazine editor Russell Callaghan said: "This video footage from Turkey, if authentic, represents a serious challenge to science. I can honestly say that this footage is truly unique."

"There was this bright comet-like object with a small tail - it looked like a plane was on fire," she said on the Chronicle's Facebook page.

It's largely a technical achievement, but it augurs well for the chances of finding life trillions of miles from Earth.A team of mostly Dutch astronomers have used the Very Large Telescope -- situated atop a barren ridge in the Chilean Andes -- to examine a planet hugging the star Tau Bootis, 51 light-years away. The planet is hellishly hot and impressively hefty; it packs the mass of a half-dozen Jupiters. But the truly interesting thing is that the VLT was able to detect this world's elusive infrared glow. Applying a bit of spectral analysis, the team uncovered carbon monoxide in its atmosphere.Now carbon monoxide, familiar to many as a noxious tail pipe emission, is just another of the simple molecules that are as common as clover in the cosmos. No biggie. But could this same technique be used to find biologically relevant gases, such as ozone (a form of oxygen) or methane? If so, it would be a method for discovering life from afar.Frankly, today's telescopes would have a hard time pulling this off. But new, outsized instruments sporting mirror diameters of 100 feet or more are in the offing.
