A few items have been appearing about the 'UFOs' that are really balloons, or lanterns. Sky Lanterns, or 'glo-laterns' are some terms for them. You can buy them on-line. Popular, and used at parties, weddings, celebrations, etc. these lighted orange balloons light up the night skies with (what I assume) is a delightful display.
At first, there were some misidentifications. Not knowing what they were; balloons, they were considered "UFOs." Which, taken literally, they were. Very quickly, everyone realized they weren't flying saucers from Mars, or anything paranormal, alien, or weird; just pretty lights with a prosaic purpose.
People have been making and releasing lights in the sky for decades. Pranksters, hoaxers, have been playing with candles, lights, clear garbage bags, etc. for a long time just to goof around.
And if you, or I, saw some odd lights in the sky, and couldn't readily identify it, it's a UFO. What's wrong with that? What else are we to think? Of course it's a UFO. It's unidentified, and we don't know what it is. Are we to ignore it and move on? Is that what the dominant paradigm wants us to do? So big deal, it turns out it's a sky lantern. No harm. Good to know.
But some feel it's important to go on about this non-issue and beat us about the head with the obvious. Sometimes I feel like I really am living in Alice Land. Up is down, mountains are molehills, molehills are mountains, the elephant in the room has just stomped on your dog and no one mentions it. We're immersed in minutia while ignoring the huge big great immense awful mysterious lying deceitful poisoning wondrous stuff out there. Black is white, green is pink, and people get intellectually bent out of shape over nothing, while ignoring meatier issues.
And all this while, a lot of people want One Big Final Answer to Everything, so we can all go back to bed.
As if that will stop anything. Once we the Big Final Answer to Everything, surely that will only bring up more questions.

I was talking to Mike Fortson this evening. By the way my name is Xxx Xxxxxxxx. I reside in Toledo, Ohio. I have never talked about the UFO i saw on a hot summer night in Phoenix, Arizona. I am starting to talk about it now and also I am going to draw a picture of what I saw. I am a carpenter and have some engineering background.
I know what i saw and also the size of it. It also had railings all the way around it. The craft was huge but my minimum estimate is it was L shapped. The long part of the L was about 6 football fields long the short part of the L was about 200' long the depth was about 9-10' and it had a railing about 5' tall all the way around it. The railings had a light at every post all the way around the craft. The lights were like solar lights and were the color of solor lights. They seemed to be to give some light to the deck of the craft and not for avation or anything like that. The craft had NO MOTOR, No power noise of any kind it was just like it was smoothly glidding across the earth and it was right in front of my face like 100-150' above me moving to the south-east over phoenix.
I am going to draw a picture of it in the best detail i can and i am going to have a artist or someone color it in for me till i get it the best i can. This has been a awsome experience and i have held it in for many years as i thought no person would understand me. I also thought people would think i was crazy. At this time in my life I dont care what anyone says. I am going to draw it and share my experience with anyone that wants to know about it.

The Fear Liath, also known as the Am Fear Liath Mor, The Big Grey Man of Ben MacDhui, or the Greyman, is a creature said to haunt the summit and passes of the Ben MacDhui. The Ben MacDhui is the highest peak of the Cairngorms, the second highest peak in Scotland, and lies on the southern edge of the Cairngorm plateau.

There have been several sightings of the Fear Liath by climbers and also a few photographs of footprints left behind by the creature.
There have been reports of large, hairy creatures roaming the British Isles since the 13th century. Often the creature was referred to as Wudewas or "Wood Men." But, it was in 1925 that the story of the Fear Liath was first told. John Norman Collie was a much-respected scientist, climber, and explorer who had a frightening experience while alone near the summit of the Ben MacDhui, but did not tell anyone for about 35 years. He finally decided to recount his experience with the creature at the 1925 Annual General Meeting of the Cairngorm Club.
When he finally did tell the story, it was terrifying. "I began to think I heard something else than merely the noise of my own footsteps. For every few steps I took I heard a crunch, and then another crunch as if someone was walking after me but taking steps three or four times the length of my own." Collie went on to say as the crunching sound continued, he was "seized with terror and took to my heels, staggering blindly among the boulders for four or five miles" until he reach the Rothiemurchus Forest.
While Collie did not actually see the Fear Liath, he was so spooked by the experience that he resolved never to return to the Ben MacDhui alone, convinced there was a creature on the mountain.
Collie was not the only climber to report this experience. After he told his story, he received a correspondence from Dr. A. M. Kellas. This letter told Collie that Dr. Kellas and his brother Henry were close to the summit when they saw a giant figure approaching. It disappeared in a dip, but scared the men enough that they left before seeing if it would reappear or not.
Many other climbers described the same unshakable feeling of fear and panic that Collie and Kellas felt. Like Kellas, some actually reported seeing a large figure. Many say they have an overwhelming feeling of negative energy around them. Some have even reported the Feat Liath speaking in an incomprehensible voice that vaguely resembles the Gaelic language.This experience is similar to those reported by people who have encountered Sasquatch or Bigfoot, but there may be some explanations. Those feeling they saw the Fear Liath may actually have been seeing an optical illusion known as the Brocken spectre. This can occur on misty mountainsides and appears as a large magnified shadow. It is caused by the sun shining from behind a climber that is looking down a ridge into the mist. The light projects up through this mist and creates the shadow effect that is often triangular in shape, making it look human in form.
While some may discount the Fear Liath as an optical illusion that spooks climbers of the Ben MacDhui, many out there attest that there is a strange presence on the mountain that simply cannot be explained.

Following the meteor blast in Russia few weeks ago, two Grants Pass locals shared they observed an unidentified flying object flying across the Southern Oregon night sky. Heather Scherffius and Gregory Soldner captured the UFO sighting on camera and believed the thing they spotted was not an asteroid or a meteor.
As reported by the two witnesses, they were outside of their residence at around 10:30 p.m. when the UFO showed up. At first the woman witness thought the UFO was a star. So she went to get him and he was also confused of what was happening. And the UFO started moving.
The other witness said that it appeared like a metallic disk of some kind. He is uncertain, but it was metallic and the manner it moved was bizarre. He do not believe in flying saucers but he has never witnessed anything quite like what they just spotted.
Heather and Gregory further added that the unidentified flying object stayed in a single area for more than a few minutes even creating a number of unusual space moves. They said that it moved up and down, back to one spot then zigzagged a little for 20-30 minutes before it was completely gone.
The non-UFO believers remain digesting what they experienced PARANORMAL that night. They find it tough to believe.
In the original video clip, it is hard to find out what is being captured. NBC 5 applied a special form of filtration to the video to make lighting more visible and for the UFO to be clearly seen across the Grant Pass night sky last February 15, 2013.
NBC called the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after learning the UFO encounter to find out if there were any other UFO sightings claimed on that day or if there were airplanes traveling throughout Grants Pass during that time. An unnamed FAA personnel verified that there are only few UFO reports in the area but they will do an investigation about the object noticed in Grants Pass and possibly further assess if there is any relation to the Russia meteor blast that happened.

Comparison of a recent reconstruction of "Ogopogo's" head to the head of a cow moose. There are several strong points of similarity. Older reports frequently featured the ears and the "Beard" (Bell) that a moose has, but these features are usually not reported in more recent accounts.

Here is a sample accounting for the Freshwater-Monster accounts from Alberta, Canada. A state-by-state and Provence-by=Provence accounting yields similar results in most cases. LongNecked Sea-serpent and SuperEel types are the minority of reports in most cases and when they are seen they are not usually very far inland:

Battle River. A 30-foot long animal with a long gray head and neck was reported June 1934. Most likely a swimming moose with the effect of trailing humps in the wake.
Bow River, a large fish reportedly either an eel or a catfish was captured on July 30, 1942.
Christina Lake: Monster known as Christina, likely a swimming moose as above.
Clearwater River, near North Sascatchewan River, is the location of an early report a few miles from The Rocky Mountain House. Robert Forbes reported seeing a 20-foot-long gray creature on October 18, 1946: the creature raised a large head out of the water and seized a calf in its mouth, dragging it into the water. The creature swam off, oblivious of the shower of stones Forbes threw after it in an attempt to make it drop the calf. This sounds very likey to be a cow moose pulling its own calf into the water at the appearance of what seemed to be a threat-the threat being Forbes. Forbes afterwards described the creature as having red eyes and a huge mouth, which are probably somewhat exaggerated.
Cold Lake held a mythological creature called Kinsoo by the local Indigines
Cow Lake was also rumored to have a monster, possibly based on another swimming moose.
Frog Lake was also supposed to house another monster. One presumes a monstrous frog in Native lore from the name.
Glenmore Reservoir. Monster mentioned as a "Boon to tourism". No sightings are detailed, but the circumstances are dubious.
Heart Lake. Possibly only a mythical water monster
Lake MacGregor (Reservoir) was reported to have a 12-to-14-foot-long creature which raised its head on a length of neck in 1945. This also sounds like a swimming moose.
Lake Minnewanka. A large fish is mentioned but also a longer-necked mammalian creature. Probable conflation of unrelated sightings.The longer-necked mammal would be a moose.
North Sascatchewan River: "Pink Eye" is the name given to the "Ogopogo" which lives in the river. In 1939, Chief Walking Eagle reported that he had been chased by a 50-foot-long water monster while crossing the river, also near Rocky Mountain House. Several years later a rain of a larger Ogopogo and six smaller Ogopogos were reported in the River. These are likely to be swimming-moose reports with the wake giving the appearance of multiple humps (or multiple "Baby Ogopogos")
Saddle Lake was the location of several reports of a horseheaded creature between 1974 and 1982. Sometimes ears or horns (or only one horn) were reported. The length was given as 50 to 150 feet long. Once again this sounds like a series of swimming moose reports, the wake being counted as the length of the body.
The South Saskachewan River has a slightly different creature, called Agopogo, or Ogopup. A report by Parker Kent and his family in 1949 described it as a sort of furry alligator 5-8 feet long. This is possibly based on a sighting of a giant Beaver. These would probably be the same as "oogie-Boogies" reported at the Waterton Lakes and possibly other furry Water-Monsters reported in the Missoiri River in Native Traditions (Probably also Giant Beavers)Just as a sort of a footnote, The Great Horned Water Serpent in the Great Lakes was supposed to have red horns made of copper according to native traditions. The copper deposits on Isle Royale were supposed to be produced from the horns, meaning that the horns were supposed to be made of copper, the horns were dropped and continually renewing, and the copper horns became the copper deposits.Renewable horns means antlers. The translators make the meaning of such traditions much less clear by their choice of wording.
Further West, some folklorists have mentioned red-horned Water Monsters from Native traditions and Mark Hall mentioned that in passing in a PURSUIT article on horned-alligator reports "Horrors" From The Mesozoic. It seems that these reports come from areas associated with the Apaches, and the Apaches are Athabascans out of Western Canada originally: one of the members at Frontiers of Zoology is a Kiowa and he sent me a personal message saying that the native name for the type of creature is Water Horse.
The Water monster at Flathead Lake is moose-antlered in the Native traditions of that particular area. That is one place where the tradition specifically states that feature.
That the antlers are red in the season when the velvet comes off of them and they are actually bloody for a short while. And so we have a direct inferrance that these Water Horses are antlered (Moose-antlered) and that during part of the year the antlers are characteristically all red (because the velvet has just come off). And this was a mth given for the origin of the copper at Isle Royale.
Incidentaly one of the later news items out of PURSUIT before it folded was about a Water Monster report from Colorado. The report was of a creature swimming along the surface of the water with one hump placed prominantly midway along the exposed back right behind the head and neck (as also recorded at Lake Winnepeg/ Winnepegosis/ Manitoba). The witness denied it was a swimming moose but that is EXACTLY what he had described.

The problem is that anything not immediately identified that is sighted on Loch Ness is automatically "Nessie". There are more than one kind of unknowns involved, and another part of the problem is that "Nessie" is somehow permanently attached to that lake and somehow peculiar to it. None of the unknowns that appear there are confined to Loch Ness and exclusive to it.
What BEGAN as "The Loch Ness Monster" was traditionally The Water Horse. THAT was a horse-sized and shaped animal that went into the water. It was recorded as such in reports at least as recently as 1934. However, the more spectacular reports that caught the attention of the press and what the world came to know as "Nessie" was the Long-Necked type of Sea Serpent, and was immediately identified as such by those in the know at the time (eg, R.T. Gould and A.C. Oudemans) THAT is something else again, and something that has a worldwide distribution.
THE characteristic Freshwater "Monster" in what have been called "The Monster Latitudes", primarily the Taiga zone as identified by Ivan Sanderson (who also used the generic term Northern Lake Monsters but MEANT this same distribution) IS "The Water Horse". That is the distribution for the Elk/Moose. The Long-Necked Sea Serpent type turns out to be mostly riverine and temporary when it is seen inland. This is also true of the Giant Eel types, but the proportions differ to such an extent that the two types are easily separated statistically. Giant Eels are also traditional on Loch Ness, as well as Master-otters, and both of them seen SPECIFICALLY in Loch Ness from the older records although also reported elsewhere.

It is an event that has risen to the top of the pile of UFO reports and debates: a downed extraterrestrial spacecraft, alien bodies, and an extensive government cover-up. The incident at Roswell, New Mexico came to light with an interesting news release on July 8, 1947. Roswell Army Air Field reported that a "flying disc" had been found in a debris field on a ranch outside town. Roswell is the most hyped of the various UFO stories. It eventually turned into reports of alien autopsies and rumors that the government had discovered 11 UFO crash sites over the years.
Roswell itself has become a tourist attraction filled with UFO kitsch. The people who argue about government conspiracy, alien abductions and the like have been relegated to the fringe of society. First Contact would change all of that. Suddenly every one of these scenarios will be resurrected and brought forth. New accusations will surface. Various governments will be accused of cover-ups. The alien abduction and atrocity contingent will gain a new voice and new attention.
And perhaps they should?
Right now we can scoff and say "show me the evidence". The skeptics are correct: if there has been contact with Earth then why is it always held in the shadows and away from the general public? Why is there not one bit of physical evidence to support such claims?
Carl Sagan did plenty in his lifetime to take a rational look at the UFO report phenomenon. In the end he landed on the side of the skeptics. He took up the subject in an essay entitled "Has the Earth been visited?"
"My own view is that there are no cases that are simultaneously very reliable (reported independently by a large number of witnesses) and very exotic (not explicable in terms of reasonably postulated phenomena-as a strange moving light could be a searchlight from a weather airplane or a military refueling operation)."
First Contact changes everything. When extraterrestrial life visiting Earth becomes a fact, all of these other issues come back to the surface. And they will have to be confronted.
Let's say that an extraterrestrial civilization lands on Earth and proclaims that this is the first time they have been here. Do we take them at their word? With all of the various alien abduction and landing reports we would have to re-examine the facts.
When the extraterrestrials are walking the Earth, saying hello, and flying a craft through the atmosphere it will be impossible to ignore the cries of those who believe aliens have been visiting and tampering with humans for some time. This will need to be acknowledged in any First Contact situation. A visiting extraterrestrial civilization will need to address the issue immediately and set the record straight with an exact accounting of all previous contact by any alien culture. This may not be easy. Perhaps there are dozens or hundreds of civilizations out there with the technology required to visit Earth? Perhaps the First Contact group is simply one civilization and others have been visiting? The First Contact group could have careful restrictions on human contact while some other society has been performing biology experiments on us for years.
Much of the responsibility for handling these questions will fall on the United Nations. I would think they would want to establish, and quickly, a task force of some sort to take up the claims and refute or support them. The First Contact civilization will undoubtedly have to participate in this action, even if they claim to have had no contact at all. There will have to be a process of raising all of the claims and then dismissing them one by one. Or perhaps even acknowledgement that previous contact did occur and exactly when, where and how that contact was conducted. No matter what the case the issue will need to be resolved. The world will not be able to move forward until all of this is put safely to rest in history.
There is much an extraterrestrial civilization will have to overcome in First Contact with the planet Earth. There are many years of scary science fiction movies, decades of UFO reports and all sorts of other conjecture that will have to be dealt with. Most of that can come from an honest, forthright discussion of the facts. This is one part of the information deluge that we should not hold back. There needs to be a complete accounting so that we can move forward with the real work. We cannot be good citizens of the universe until we know exactly how we got here.

Several more Tri-Citians have come forward saying they saw unexplained lights in the sky as recently as Wednesday night, and self-described UFO tracking agencies are showing interest in the case.
The reports were similar to that of a Finley man who said he saw three lights gliding slowly from Burbank west over the Columbia River, then heading north toward Kennewick.
An air traffic controller has said the object likely was a military aircraft, and a Port of Pasco employee who saw the lights said hes certain they were military helicopters.
However, Peter Davenport, director of the Spokane-based National UFO Reporting Center who earlier said the sighting was consistent with a commercial aircraft, said Thursday that his interest in the case is piqued.
"Ive gotten about eight calls (from witnesses) already," Davenport said Thursday.
Jerry Nelson told the Herald on Wednesday that he and his wife saw three lights -- two red and one white and red -- spaced far apart and gliding through the sky, moving "as slow or as fast as a blimp" between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Nelson said the object made no sound, and the size and slow speed it moved convinced him it was not an airplane....
