One individual who has followed the Rendlesham saga, is UK journalist and amateur astronomer, Ian Ridpath. On his website at (click here) there is a section titled "The Supposed Radar Sightings."
Ridpath writes "The answer is that the supposed radar sightings are simply part of the Rendlesham mythology. In my researches on this case stretching back to 1983, I have never found any evidence that the supposed Rendlesham Forest UFOs were tracked on radar. Recent release of the Ministry of Defence file on the case confirms that there were no radar sightings on any of the days the UFOs were seen." Ridpath cites his evidence as:
1. 9 Oct 83 wrote to the MOD. A 9 Oct 83 reply "...no unidentified object was seen on any radar recording during the period in question."
2. 14 Nov 83 wrote to the MOD. A reply on 7 Dec 83 was that there was no truth in the story that radar records had been confiscated.
3. In Jan 1994 MOD employee Nick Pope prepared an information note "No unidentified object was seen on radar during the period in question."
4. April 1994 issue of "Omni" magazine. "Interview of Col Halt who said his command post contacted RAF Watton who said they didn't see anything.
5. Sqdn Ldr Derek Coumbe, the senior operations officer on duty at RAF Watton was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 in 2003 and recalled calls from Bentwater. "We scrutinised the radar time and time again completely, and kept a watch on it through the whole period when these calls were going on and nothing was seen. Nothing at all."
6. On 9 Dec 1994 the "Strange but True" program implied that Mal Scurrah a former radar operator at RAF Neatishead had seen the Rendlesham object on radar. In the May/Jun 1995 issue of "UFO Magazine" Scurrah said his radar sighting was in late Oct or early Nov 1980.
So, according to Ridpath the answer to our question is "no."
THE UK MOD RENDLESHAM PAPERS:
The National Archives of the United Kingdom have the MOD papers on the incident. In his 2012 book "The UFO Files: The Inside Story of Real-Life UFOs" second edition, published by Bloomsbury, London, ISBN 978-1-4081, author David Clarke, covers the Rendlesham saga on pages 105-114. Clarke's comments, are in part, drawn from the official papers.
On page 108 Clarke writes "While these sightings were ongoing, Halt used his radio to contact RAF Bentwaters control tower to request radar confirmation. They called British military air traffic control at RAF Watton in Norfolk, but the response said nothing unusual could be seen on their screens."
On page 112 Clarke writes "Another rumour emerged in 1981 claimed the UFO was tracked on British radar on one or both nights. While the MOD file reveals that checks were carried out on incorrect dates and times provided by Halt's memo, it clearly states that no unusual targets were detected by any RAF radars during the Christmas/New year period of 1980. This was confirmed by Squadron Leader Derek Coumbe who was duty commander at RAF Watton, the air traffic control centre for the region during the incident.
When I spoke to him in 2001 he recalled receiving a call from RAF Bentwaters whilst Halt's team were in the forest during the early hours of 28 December 1980. "They were very jumpy and panicky on the phone" he said, "but I personally checked the radar picture and there was absolutely nothing to be seen. They kept coming back and implying there should be something but we kept a watch on it through the whole period and nothing was seen."
So, the answer to my question is "no."

A rotting carcass recently washed up on the shores of Spain, and people immediately started wondering what the creature was. It was even dubbed Spain's Montauk monster, even though the creature in Montauk was a mammal and the horned sea monster in Spain was obviously a sea creature of some sort. But like the Montauk monster, the only thing monstrous about it was the state of decomposition it was in. Spain's horned monster? A shark skeleton, say experts.

Horned sea monster? Dragon? A long, smelly carcass that washed up on the Spanish coast may never be conclusively identified - but experts say it sure looks like the remains of a thresher shark.
The latest in a string of "sea serpent" stories has sparked an online buzz in the past few days, thanks to the gnarly-looking pictures that surfaced in the Spanish press last week. The carcass washed up on Luis Siret Beach in the Andalusian village of Villaricos, according to the local publication Ideal, and sparked jokes about the Loch Ness monster and mutant fish.
"A lady found one part, and we helped her retrieve the rest," Civil Protection coordinator Maria Sanchez was quoted as saying. "We have no idea what it was. It really stank, as it was in the advanced stages of decomposition."
Sanchez said conservationists with the Program in Defense of Marine Animals, or Promar, were trying to identify the remains. However, Europa Press quoted a coordinator of the group, Francisco Toledano, as saying that any identification would have to be made on the basis of the images - because the decomposing remains were buried by sand.
Toledano said the preliminary analysis suggests that the 13-foot-long (4-meter-long) carcass came from a "species of fish," but he wasn't more specific. Almeria24h.com said some experts speculated that the creature could be a thresher shark (also known as fox shark, Alopias vulpinus, or "peje zorro" in Spanish). Such sharks have a distinctive caudal fin that can stretch out as long as the shark's body itself.
"It's hard to tell," David Shiffman, a University of Miami shark researcher who blogs about marine biology on Southern Fried Science, told NBC News in a Twitter exchange, "but the official guess that it could be a thresher shark seems plausible."
Shiffman said it might also be a giant oarfish (Regalecus glesne) - a ribbony fish that's typically 10 feet (3 meters) long but can grow to lengths in excess of 33 feet (10 meters). Oarfish sightings have been thought to inspire tales of sea serpents, and it's only been recently that the beast has been caught on video in its deep-sea environment.
But Florida State University ichthyologist Dean Grubbs settled the matter in a follow-up email.
"That is definitely a shark skeleton," Grubbs told NBC News. "The elements toward the back were confusing me, but those are the lower caudal fin supports. The 'horns' are the scapulocoracoids which support the pectoral fins."
Shiffman agreed that Grubbs had the gravitas to settle the question: "If not the leading shark morphology guy, Dean's certainly [in the] top five," Shiffman said via Twitter.
The sea holds many mysteries, I'm sure, and I wouldn't be surprised if something truly monstrous washes up on shore at some point. But for now, these mysterious beach creatures all seem to be known animals that just look like something out of a nightmare due to decomposition.

I want to express my thanks for the support I've received regarding the kooky, yet entertaining attempt at an assassination piece (UFO Mag Columnist is an Insult To Readers) written by David P. Kuhlman in UFO Digest. Extra-special thanks go out to Lesley Gunter for her write-up on The Debris Field, and of course, Regan Lee for her hilariously wonderful article "Brazen Hussies Invade Earth! Serious UFO Research Attacked!" (with the delicious subtitle: "CIGARETTE SMOKING WOMAN SINGLE-HANDEDLY BRINGS DOWN UFO RESEARCH! IN HER SLIP, NO LESS!").
A few people have asked if I was going to respond to the by my admirer, Mr. Kuhlman -- but what is there to really say that wasn't already addressed by Lesley and Regan? I dunno, I'll give it a whirl anyway:
The entire thing was so ridiculous, that it was difficult to be offended by it. His piece seemed more obsessive than newsworthy, though admittedly, I was really flattered that he spent so much time writing about "me". The UFO column that so drove Mr. Kuhlman over the edge was merely an introductory piece that was requested by UFO Magazine Editor, Nancy Birnes - if that alone made his *ahem* "blood boil," Lord only knows what my actual columns will do to the poor guy.
Every serious area of research and study has its off-color writers, so why should UFOlogy be so different? Poking fun at the ridiculousness of UFOlogy should in no way imply that I am not serious about it. If I wasn't, I wouldn't waste my time hammering away at my keyboard. And believe me, if there is an "-ology" out there that could use a little self-deprecating humor, it's definitely "UFOlogy". If you can't laugh at some of the outrageous crap that goes on within the field, I don't know what to tell you other than maybe you need to find some other area of interest to devote your time to. Like needlepoint.
I think that's really what confused me the most - his argument that I was undermining "serious" UFO research. How exactly was I doing that? Because I wrote an introduction in which I called bullshit on a lot of UFOlogy and used the occasional "naughty" word? Because I made it fun to read instead of stuffily laying on a bunch of thick, worthless credentials? Every "serious" UFO researcher knows that this field is smeared in bullshit - to deny that is probably more of the problem, than the remedy.
Some have speculated that his response was so strong because I'm a female, and that it carried a chauvinistic edge. I'm not so sure I'm comfortable jumping to that conclusion, though I don't completely dismiss the possibility. Men largely populate the world of UFOlogy, and the women who are involved are often overlooked, ignored, or brushed aside -- so I can understand why some may feel this way. I'd like to give Mr. Kuhlman the benefit of the doubt though, and assume that it was "only me" who invoked such a response from such a hardcore researcher (or that maybe he was instigating a little "slap & tickle)".
What are my opinions about Mr. Kuhlman? Hell if I know. As long as I have been studying UFOs, I've never heard of the guy. Of course, I don't read UFO Digest, so that may have something to do with it. I mean, yeah, he's a dick, but its hard to be too upset with someone who is a bit thick in the head and leaves no room for anything outside of his little bubble of priggish, "serious" UFO research.
