I would like to shed a bit of light on this situation from a personal experience. As some people know that have followed this blog, this blogger is a life long experiencer. As a child, I remembered drawing the beings and the craft I had seen as a child in school over and over as I looked out the window of my elementary school. The classrooms had tall windows for kindergarten up through fourth or fifth grade. Yes, this does explain the satisfactory report cards I used to get and not the superior one's. Paying attention to the teacher after having an experience the night before was a wee bit difficult to say the least. Questions would loom in my mind such as; "Where did they come from? How did they get here? How did they move through the wall? When are they coming back?"

That same year of making the drawings in school which must have been about first or second grade, I recall a strange man driving me home from school. I only remember a glimpse of the event and this is what I recall. A man who was supposedly a school janitor (although he was not from this particular elementary school). I have no idea where he came from and he was dressed in janitor clothing, but had shiny clean shoes and access to the town school vehicle. This man somehow was allowed to drive me home. How and why he was allowed to take me home was beyond me. My mother was a stay at home Mom, so someone could likely have picked me up. However, these were the 70's, rules were as loose as bell bottoms back then.

I remember feeling incredibly uncomfortable with him as it just didn't feel and look right, especially his shoes. And he was not the janitor that I had ever seen before. I sat in the front seat of a large station wagon and pressed my body up against the passenger door so I could get as far away as possible. The elementary school was only about a quarter mile away from my house and when we reached the intersection for him to go straight which was the road to my house, he decided to take a right. I could feel he was going to take his time and pretend to get lost before he made he turn and that is what he did do. So, I went up closer and harder to the passenger door to get some comfort.

He then says without ever making eye contact with me in a casual voice, "so you see those beings too? You see those beings and the ship too?" I could feel my heart race. Just "BRING ME HOME" I screamed in my head. I knew not to say a word and I didn't. I do not recall what happened after that moment.

What is the point with this? At 7 or 8 years old someone knew this contact was occurring. How? Why? What? I don't know. What I do know is the truth of these beings, the continuing contact and knowledge about free energy has been stifled for ages. People have worked hard to not see this truth come to light. Perhaps even taking an 8 year old kid alone for a ride in a car and questioning her about the beings. Could this have been someone who legitimately worked for the school who had experienced something similiar to me and caught site of one of my drawings? Perhaps. However, the shoes. It just didn't add up. He barely had a scuff on them and moreover, I stayed in the same school system for the next 10 years upon graduation from high school and never saw him again after that day.

I have always said "truth is stranger than fiction." Maybe it explains why I have no tolerance for romance novels or mysteries.

Not So Much a Goodbye as 'Changing Course': A Final Post by Dennis Whitney. To all of those that have remained so supportive of me (and my work) these past few years, I want to offer my sincerest thanks. For many of you, this may come as an absolute surprise to read, but it was important to me to at least say goodbye properly, and not just disappear into the sunset without explanation.

It has come to my attention that my efforts to speak the truth about

the subjects of UFOs, 9/11, and most probably, the Gulf situation, has

garnered the attention of those that would rather not have you hear

such things. This has further led to a supposed contract on my life.

This may be overblown, or it may be for real. But the communication

and connections that I have had with my own Guides tell me, this isn't

a game. But it's 'arrival' in my life has prompted some needed

changes, at a time that seems oddly well-timed, and appropriate. I

think you'll understand.

Though I'm a little surprised its gone this far, I'm also not very

surprised at all, given my compulsion to passionately share all that I

can with those who just aren't 'getting it' yet. My aim has always

been (since the days of my own awakening) to awaken others, for their

own benefit and safety, as well as helping them understand the

importance of raising their own consciousness and vibration.

And the importance of that cannot be understated. To have a grasp of

the issues that surround us such as; the ET presence, the suppressed

technologies we so badly need on this planet, to our positions as

pawns for a corrupt government, will eventually help us all to rise

above the lies, and ascend during this period of dimensional shifting,

and crashing paradigms. To not be aware, is to suppress your own

vibrations, which can make your ascension into a new and beautiful 5D

world somewhat impossible. And it's no fairytale, as the evidence is

there for us to see every day now, as we watch it all come to pass.

And the short version is, I want as many of you to be part of this

amazing time in mankind's history, as I can possibly gather. I'd like

to think I've done my best until this point, and I think I have.

I've used this analogy with others. If you're on a beach with someone,

and all signs are pointing to an imminent tsunami, how long do you

stand there and argue your point to them, until it takes both of you

away? That's where we are now. And many of us can no longer help those

that choose not to be helped. We need to get to higher ground right

now, with or without you. But we'd like you to come along, make no

mistake about that.

But this also may very well be my cue to close one chapter in my life,

to only begin the next. None of what we feel or do is coincidental in

this life. There is a plan at work. A plan created before we were

born. And we receive signs of that every day, through synchronicity

and intuition. I'm sure you feel it, too, as I do.

So for me, it will be less focus on the corruption and orchestration

of a government hell bent on continuing their control and reduction of

the population, and more focus on the tangible, positive efforts on

the ground. Things are going to get crazy, and I think we know that. I

also think it's my time to help others physically through this period,

rather than on the internet, which many of us feel is coming quickly

to an end anyway, through further controls and the power now granted

to this president to shut it down. Again, it seems to be my cue to

exit stage left at this time. I can help in other ways.

This is not to say that I don't believe in the things I have shared,

nor have I been 'gotten to'. This is a personal decision of mine to

move forward with what little time is left to do so. The issues are

real, and the efforts of a darker government to control, manipulate

and threaten still exist in this world. I hope I have awakened a few

in the mean time to this. I feel I have, which is also why I also feel

that it's alright for me to move on from writing about these subjects.

And if your own inner guidance tells you the same, I'd say, act on it.

But YES, every bit of what I have shared I believe in to my very core.

But now, I choose not to give it that power. They are done, and they

know it. It's time for many of us to move forth, and just watch as

they grasp for their vanishing power, which will soon be no more than

dust in their hands. It is ALL good, and time for us to move forward.

Brighter days ahead, we can be sure, after this madness comes to an

end. And it will, very soon.

We're all here for particular reasons and tasks. And I feel that many

of us are protected as we fulfill them. Which is why, there is no fear

from my end. Just a certain sensibility, strength, and sense of peace

and completion as 'Phase 2' now begins. I feel stronger now, more

resolute, and ready to act on whatever I need to do next, for myself

and others. Many of you are no different in that regard, and I KNOW

who you are, and I'm grateful and blessed for having known you.

In one week from now, when I return from a brief trip away, I will

close my accounts, my columns, and my blog. This is not a snap

decision of mine, and again, is under the direction and suggestion of

my own Guides who have brought me to where I am today, safely and

happily. I would have thought to at least leave them open and

operating, so others can continue to do their own research. I got a

no-go on that. Sorry.

In closing, I would say that if you have not awakened to the realities

people are trying to share with you, please look a bit harder into

what they are seeing that you are not. There is so much more truth to

these realities than you may ever know. And simply opening up to them

can have tremendously positive, spiritual implications that many of us

are already experiencing. Don't lose out on that opportunity. It's

right there on a plate for you, and time is running out for those

still resistant to such truths. Open yourself up. Lose the belief

systems now. And if you're living along the Gulf, being open and

listening, might just give you the tools you need to save your life,

and causing you to get out of that situation.

We are a people, deserving of all the secrets kept from us for the

past century. Humanity has needed these to evolve, and to limit the

power and corruption we are now witnessing. We should've been

fully-integrated and assimilated into the greater cosmic community

with our star brothers and sisters by now (I think), and we sure as

hell haven't needed the very oil that is causing so much rampant

destruction, control, and wealth that it is today (at least in terms

of operating our vehicles). It has been a sham. The technology exists,

and it is clean and cheap, UFOs do not get from star to star using

diesel. The technology is there, and we'll have it soon enough. Just

investigate the findings of Gary McKinnon, and you will KNOW this is

true!

And the days of threats, intimidation, incarceration and 'hits' should

have long since passed. It's time we all stand up in our own way, and

take what's rightfully ours. We are not slaves. We are a connected

human family. No one has the right to dictate the direction of our

lives but us. Please remember that.

I will also tell you, that although I feel absolutely fine, and am

sure the threat above will soon pass, I find it absolutely necessary

to make one thing clear. In studying the mysterious deaths of many UFO

researchers, microbiologists, and whistle blowers over the years, many

have been deemed 'suicides' by the coroner, conveniently after

releasing some very damaging testimony and evidence of these truths.

The kinds of things that would embarrass or harm the agenda of certain

powers. I can tell you, without hesitation, that that will NEVER be a

solution for me under any circumstance.

I have great plans when this incarnation of mine is done upon earth,

and suicide only defeats, destroys, and screws with any such plans. So

IF anything ever happened, this letter is my testimony to that fact

that I did NOT commit suicide. And I would ask, for however many of

you choose to store it in your files or post on your walls or blogs,

that you immediately release this letter (en masse) to any media

source our outlet that you can find, and expose them for who they are.

That this was no accident, nor intention to end my own life. This, I

would expect to be my little insurance policy. If they act, you act.

That simple. And if anything did happen, you would also be notified

by any of several of my closest friends. So no news is good news.

As flying object was coming down towards the lake, lights on object started going counterclockwise and spinning. I had to slow down from the then 55 mph limit to 20 miles mph in order to avoid space craft hitting my truck/rig. As a truck driver I noticed that in the summer, the green hides the lake and unless a person is familiar with the area there is no way of knowing Lake Rend is there, where I saw the Space craft go into the dark water lake. My heart was beating and I was racing with time in a truck/rig caravan as a truck driver where my only option was to slow down and honk at the space craft in order to avoid it hitting me since I was at the end of the truck/rig caravan. The Mantell case occurred on January 7, 1948. He was a member of the Kentucky Air National Guard, and while on a routine flight, would become the first pilot to lose his life while persuing a UFO, at least that we know about.After Kenneth Arnold's sighting of 1947, and the subsequent crash at Roswell, many open-minded individuals were frightened by what might be flying in our skies. Mantell and his crew would be called upon to perform this important duty, and the fulfillment of that duty was just out of his reach, as he lost his life in the pursuit of a UFO.Mantell, in his F-51, was joined by three other Guard fliers, on their way to Standiford Air Force Base, Kentucky. About 1:30 PM, the Kentucky State Police began getting phone calls from anxious citizens reporting the sighting of a large, circular object. These sightings began over the city of Mansville, but soon spread to Irvington and Owensboro.Operators in the control tower of Godman Air Force Base were alerted to the sighting reports, and they were able to clearly observe the unknown object. They described it as being extremely large, white in color, and round with a red light on its belly. The object appeared to be moving systematically, yet slowly to the south. About an hour after the first sighting reports were made, Mantell and his squadron were radioed to check out the mysterious unknown object.One of Mantell's three accompanying planes requested, and was granted permission to continue his original flight plan. Mantell and two fliers would now pursue the giant UFO. Godman Tower radioed the coordinates of the last known location of the UFO as Mantell and the two other planes began their climb to 15,000 feet. When he reached the known position of the UFO, he relayed the following statement to the tower."The object is directly ahead of and above me now, moving at about half my speed It appears to be a metallic object or possibly reflection of Sun from a metallic object, and it is of tremendous size I'm still climbing I'm trying to close in for a better look."Climbing into thin air, and low on oxygen, two of the fliers turned back from the higher altitude. Now only Mantell was left to find out just what this enormous, unknown object might be. Finally, his plane leveled off at 30,000 feet. Investigators surmised that he was out of oxygen, and passed out in the thin atmosphere. His plane was on a direct descent to the ground, over 5 miles below. In a few moments, his plane smashed to the earth near Franklin, Kentucky.The crash site was a horrible scene to behold. Mantell's body was still strapped in his pilot's seat. Later there would be rumors that his body was missing from the plane, but these rumors were unfounded. His watch had stopped at exactly 3:16 PM, obviously the moment that his plane hit the ground. In the span of 1/2 hour, the sighting reports stopped over Kentucky, but they did begin in Tennessee. The crash made major news sources.The United States Air Force was soon on the scene, and they immediately knew what had happened, or so they said. Their first lame assumption was that the crew was chasing the planet Venus. That theory was quickly dismissed after it was overtly criticized. So the Air Force soon had a second theory: The crew must have been chasing a "Skyhook" balloon. This theory was also dismissed when it was learned that no "Skyhook" was launched that day. UFO CRASH AND RETRIEVAL - MISSOURI, 1941 Published: 9:50 AM 10/17/2010 One of the most mysterious stories of a crashed UFO with alien bodies preceded the well known Roswell event by some six years. This case was first brought to investigators by Leo Stringfield in his book "UFO Crash / Retrievals: The Inner Sanctum." He opened a tantalizing account of a military controlled UFO crash retrieval which is still being researched today. The details of the case were sent to him in a letter from one Charlette Mann, who related her minister-grandfather's deathbed confession of being summoned to pray over alien crash victims outside of Cape Girardeau, Missouri in the spring of 1941. Reverend William Huffman had been an evangelist for many years, but had taken the resident minister reigns of the Red Star Baptist Church in early 1941. Church records corroborate his employment there during the period in question. After receiving this call to duty, he was immediately driven the 10-15 mile journey to some woods outside of town. Upon arriving at the scene of the crash, he saw policemen, fire department personnel, FBI agents, and photographers already mulling through the wreckage. He was soon asked to pray over three dead bodies. As he began to take in the activity around the area, his curiosity was first struck by the sight of the craft itself. Expecting a small plane of some type, he was shocked to see that the craft was disc-shaped, and upon looking inside he saw hieroglyphic-like symbols, indecipherable to him. He then was shown the three victims, not human as expected, but small alien bodies with large eyes, hardly a mouth or ears, and hairless. Immediately after performing his duties, he was sworn to secrecy by military personnel who had taken charge of the crash area. He witnessed these warnings being given to others at the scene also. As he arrived back at his home at 1530 Main Street, he was still in a state of mild shock, and could not keep his story from his wife Floy, and his sons. This late night family discussion would spawn the story that Charlette Mann would hear from her grandmother in 1984, as she lay dying of cancer at Charlette's home while undergoing radiation therapy. Charlette was told the story over the span of several days, and although Charlette had heard bits and pieces of this story before, she now demanded the full details. As her grandmother tolerated her last few days on this Earth, Charlette knew it was now or never to find out everything she could before this intriguing story was lost with the death of her grandmother. She also learned that one of the members of her grandfather's congregation, thought to be Garland D. Fronabarger, had given him a photograph taken on the night of the crash. This picture was of one of the dead aliens being help up by two men. Charlette Mann gave, in her own words, an account of what she knew for a television documentary. Some of that account is given here: "I saw the picture originally from my dad who had gotten it from my grandfather who was a Baptist minister in Cape Girardeau Missouri in the Spring of '41. I saw that [picture] and asked my grandmother at a later time she was at my home fatally ill with cancer so we had a frank discussion. "She said that grandfather was called out in the spring of 1941 in the evening around 9:00-9:30, that someone had been called out to a plane crash outside of town and would he be willing to go to minister to people there which he did. Upon arrival it was a very different situation. It was not a conventional aircraft, as we know it. He described it as a saucer that was metallic in color, no seams, did not look like anything he had seen. It had been broken open in one portion, and so he could walk up and see that. "In looking in he saw a small metal chair, gauges and dials and things he had never seen. However, what impressed him most was around the inside there were inscriptions and writings, which he said he did not recognize, but were similar to Egyptian hieroglyphics. There were 3 entities, or non-human people, lying on the ground. Two were just outside the saucer, and a third one was further out. His understanding was that perhaps that third one was not dead on impact. There had been mention of a ball of fire, yet there was fire around the crash site, but none of the entities had been burned and so father did pray over them, giving them last rites. "There were many people there, fire people, photographers, and so they lifted up one, and two men on either side stood him up and they stretched his arms out, they had him up under the armpits and out here. As I recall from the picture I saw, he was about 4 feet tall, appeared to have no bone structure, soft looking. He had a suit on, or we assume it was a suit, it could have been his skin, and what looked like crinkled, soft aluminum foil. I recall it had very long hands, very long fingers, and I think there were three but I cannot swear to that. My grandfather upon arrival, said there were already several people there on the scene, two that he assumed were local photographers, fire people, and so not long after they arrived, military just showed up, surrounded the area, took them off in groups separately, and spoke to each of them. "Grandfather didn't know what was said to the others, but he was told 'this didn't happen, you didn't see this, this is national security, it is never to be talked about again.' "My grandfather was an honorable man, being a preacher, that's all that needed to be said to him. And so he came home and told the story to my dad, who was there, and my grandmother and my uncle. Now my mother was expecting at the time, so she was off in the bedroom."

"My sister was born May 3, 1941, so we are assuming this was the middle to the last of April. And he never spoke of it again. But about two weeks later, one of the men who had a personal camera that he had put in his shirt pocket, approached grandfather and said I think someone needs a copy of this. "I have one and I would like you to keep one. So that's how it came about that grandfather had the picture to begin with. But he never spoke of it again. The other people seem to be very intimidated and very frightened and paranoid."Other living supporting witnesses include Charlette Mann's sister who confirmed her story in a notarized sworn affidavit, and the living brother of the Cape Girardeau County sheriff in 1941, Clarance R. Schade. He does remember hearing the account of the crash, yet does not have many details. He does recall hearing of a "spaceship with little people." There are also Fire Department records of the date of the crash. This information does confirm the military swearing department members to secrecy, and also the removal of all evidence from the scene by military personnel. Guy Huffman, Charlette's father also told the story of the crash, and had in his possession the photograph of the dead alien. He showed the picture to a photographer friend of his, Walter Wayne Fisk. He has been contacted by Stanton Friedman, but would not release any pertinent information.

Personal encounters with UFOs and possible abductions are among the most puzzling and frightening experiences in paranormal records. It's not just the sighting of the unusual aerial craft, it's the accompanying high strangeness. In the case of Paul Schroeder, his encounter was followed by poltergeist activity, telepathy and other unexplained events - all of which question the true nature and meaning of these "alien" experiences. IT STARTED AT 8:00 p.m. Saturday night, December 2, 2006, after a series of ice storms in New York. The ground ice crunched under my feet. White-blue icy snow covered the sidewalks underfoot. Overhead was a low, thick ceiling of clouds. Temperature about 30 degrees, and very little wind.

While walking down my driveway toward my backyard pantry door, I glanced up... and almost dropped my groceries. UFOs were assembling overhead, their "engines" glowing dark red against the blackness. ARTICLE: Last week's New Yorker had a fascinating and well written article by Burkhard Bilger on our changing perceptions of Mars. While it centers on two figures associated with the Curiosity rover, it starts with a longer overview. What struck me was the fact that some people not only imagined "canals" on Mars in the 19th century, but also saw the Hebrew word for Almight - "Shajdai "spelled out on the surface of Mars. I guess we shouldn't have been surprised then at the later claims of "Face on Mars" (these are all a result of human propensity to see patterns where none exist - known as" Pareidolia"). Here is the beginning of the article:

AND THOUGH INFRARED STUDIES SUGGESTED THAT ITS SURFACE HAD SEVENTY TIMES LESS WATER THAN EARTH'S DRIEST DESERT, BIOLOGISTS STILL HOPED FOR THE BEST. ONE TURNED GREEN, THE OTHER RED.BOOK: Linked with the 19th century fascination with Mars and the discovery, here is an NPR review of a fiction novel set in Egypt. Equilateral by Ken Kalfus has a great premise and it is on my reading list:

The real-life premise is this: In the late 19th century, astronomers spotted what they thought were canals on Mars. Many of those astronomers theorized that, therefore, there must be life on the red planet. Kalfus' fictional astronomer, Sanford Thayer, is an Englishman who's obsessed with the dream of contacting the Martians. Thayer has

launched an internationally funded project to carve out an enormous equilateral triangle - 300 miles to each side - in the Western deserts of Egypt. Once it's dug out, the triangle will be filled with petroleum. Here's how Kalfus' somewhat pompous omniscient narrator describes the rest of the plan: "[S]ometime before dawn on June 17, 1894, at the moment of Earth's most favorable position in the Martian sky, the petroleum pooled in the trenches on each Side of the Equilateral will be ignited simultaneously, launching a Flare from the Earth's darkened limb that across millions of miles of empty space will petition for man's membership in the fraternity of planetary civilizations." Throughout the opening chapters of his novel, Kalfus is so captivated by his own fictional fantasy of that giant triangular 19th century greeting card flashing into space that he's content to just elaborate on the details. He describes how 900,000 native workers toil deep in what Thayer calls "the Great Sand Sea"; those workers are under strict command not to deviate one inch in their digging lest the Martians mistakenly think that a geometrically imprecise triangle is a natural, rather than a man-made, phenomenon. That's why, when the workers stumble upon the tip of a buried pyramid as they're digging a 40-foot trench on one side of the Equilateral, Thayer orders them to bury the pyramid again and pour the pitch over it. At this point, we readers begin to catch on that Thayer, in the fine literary tradition of Englishmen abroad, has stayed out in the midday sun too long. The great lure of Kalfus' kooky novel, at first, lies in its central premise: The book even contains diagrams to help readers visualize the growing triangle and the astronomical glide of Mars and Earth relative to the sun. We feel the blistering heat and the invasiveness of little "daggered" grains of sand that scratch the eyepieces of Thayer's telescopes, even when they're carefully packed away in Chinese cedar cabinets. Given that this is a novel preoccupied with geometrical design, it makes sense that the main characters here - Thayer, his lovelorn secretary, his solicitous native servant, and the practical British engineer on the project - drift closer and further from each other in shifting triangulated alliances. But halfway through this little book, a more ambitious theme begins emerging. Without giving the startling particulars away, I'll just say that violence erupts in the desert, stirring up a veritable sandstorm of troubling philosophical questions, all of them having to do with whether or not we Earthlings even have the right to think of ourselves as embodying "intelligent life."

REALITY SHOW: Who knows when a human mission top Mars will ever take place. However, it seems that the chances for an earlier mission have gone up because of "Mars One" - a non-profit group. The Idea is to make a reality show of the first explorers on Mars - and we will all pay big bucks to see them prepare and then travel - one way - to Mars. The idea of a one-way travel to Mars has been around for a while and I see it as quite reasonable. After all, (some) humans have always been explorers and this will be a continuation of that tradition. Here is a bit about the idea:

But Mars One stands apart in very important ways: First, it will strive to be self-financed by selling the astronaut selection process, launch and landing as a reality television show. Second, the lucky winners will live out their lives in an inflatable habitat on another planet.

"If somebody's an outdoors person who says, 'I need my mountains, I need to smell the flowers,' then it's not the mission for him," says Norbert Kraft, the group's chief medical officer. Mars One co-founder Bas Lansdorp says that the idea of selling the trip as prime-time television really seemed doable after he saw the revenue numbers from the London Olympics. That event garnered more than 4 billion in just over three weeks, he says. With that in mind, the mission's 6 billion price tag "is actually a bargain." In fact, there will be a lot more to watch than the launch and landing. Even today, visitors to the Mars One website can check out public videos from applicants and vote on who they like the most. Those liked more will be more likely to go on to the next round of astronaut selection. Future rounds will be televised: Participants in each nation will square off against each other with only a single participant making his or her way to years of training. That final round will be an internationally broadcast show in which six teams of four vie for the chance to get voted off of Earth.Here is the call for applicants:

BLACK TRIANGLE SIGHTING IN LANSING, MICHIGAN ON JULY 4TH 2013 - WE SAW FIVE OBJECTS AND THREE WHERE IN A TRIANGLE SHAPE, AND TWO OTHERS OBJECTS WHERE UNDER THE TRIANGULAR SHAPE. AND WOULD MOVE WITH GREAT SPEED. THIS LASTED FOR SIX MINUTES. THEN THEY JUST DISAPPEARED.

I was walking in the hallway of our house when I looked up at the big windows in the living room, I noticed a triangular shape object with reddish color circular orbs at each end of the Points. I told my husband to look out the window at it and that's when we saw two more Circular orbs under the triangular shape object. We both told each other that we have never seen anything like this. We watched for about six minutes until they just disappeared. This objects made no noise, and would change Color to bright orangish to yellow and back to red. These colors looked like a flames inside the circular objects. And when the two orbs under the triangle would move from right to left it was with very fast speed. We where in all at What we had just seen, and knowing we have never in our lives seen anything like it.

UFO SIGHTING IN ONTARIO ON JUNE 30TH 2013 - MULTIPLE STARLIKE UFOS WITH ONE LARGE FLASH

Outside having a smoke on our patio overlooking Lake Nipissing around 11pm with my boyfriend. We first noticed one right away coming from South East basically flying over the visible Scorpio constellation, with the milky way ribbon just left of where the first seemed to originate. This particular orb was relatively starlike in shape and size, speed was variable as it seemed to speed up and slow down at various intervals. The path curved from the South East to the North West. Shortly after the first one we noticed there was a second one that flew in nearly the same flight path just a few degrees beneath the first ones path, but same movement, same direction, and same origin. We were both in awe at those two when we got the idea that we should grab our laser pointer to see if there could be any communication contact made. Once that was retrieved we noticed another starlike orb clipping along the night sky in the same general area but instead moving East to West (almost exactly). My boyfriend then flashed the laser pointer at it in quick but steady flashes. Instead of that orb responding one to the West about 40 degrees from the Western horizon did. The responding orb was unnoticed until it flashed and grew in apparent size that I could only relate to the size of a normal full moon, and at least doubled it's brightness. I personally saw more of the flash then my boyfriend but it would have lasted at least a couple of seconds from beginning to end. Once the brightness was over you could see the orb move away and disappear. At once, I had an intense feeling of excitement mixed with a feeling that we shouldn't be flashing them. I felt like we had done something unacceptable and was for a moment scared. Not sure if I felt that way because we got a response or because I fear government retaliation. After seeing that orb,another one appeared to be heading the opposite direction to the one we laser pointed, but roughly the same location in the sky. This one followed/crossed paths with a airplane that was coming from the south to North east at nearly the same time. We have been diligent in checking for satellites, iridium flares, ISS, meteor showers and even fireworks (Canada Day celebrations) and couldn't come up with our own answers to what happened. As always we have an intense sense of awe, wonder, confusion, and sometimes a little fear. We have accepted that at least half of what we see aren't anything we personally know of. But would love to know if anyone else saw anything last night.

The rover's primary mission is to find out if Mars is, or was, suitable for life. Another objective is to learn more about the red planet's environment.

Credit: NASA/JPL-CaltechView full size imageCuriosity's extensive size allows it to carry a host of scientific experiments that will be able to zap, analyze and take pictures of any rock within reach of its 7-foot (2 meters) arm. Curiosity is about the size of a small SUV. It is 9 feet 10 inches long by 9 feet 1 inch wide (3 m by 2.8 m) and about 7 feet high (2.1 m). It weighs 2,000 pounds (900 kilograms). Curiosity's wheels have a 20-inch (50.8 cm) diameter.Engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory designed the rover to roll over obstacles up to 25 inches (65 centimeters) high and to travel about 660 feet (200 meters) per day. The rover's power comes from a multimission radioisotope thermoelectric generator, which produces electricity from the heat of plutonium-238's radioactive decay. The power supply should last a full Martian year (687 Earth days) or more.

A COMPLICATED LANDING

The 2.5-billion MSL spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Nov. 26, 2011, and arrived on Mars on Aug. 6, 2012, after a daring landing sequence that NASA dubbed "Seven Minutes of Terror." Because of Curiosity's weight, NASA determined that the past method of using a rolling method with land bags would probably not work. Instead, the rover went through an extremely complicated sequence of maneuvers to land.

From a fiery entry into the atmosphere, a supersonic parachute needed to deploy to slow the spacecraft down. NASA officials said the parachute would need to withstand 65,000 pounds (29,480 kg) to break the spacecraft's fall to the surface.

Under the parachute, MSL let go of the bottom of its heat shield so that it could get a radar fix on the surface and figure out its altitude.

The parachute could only slow MSL to 200 mph (322 kph), far too fast for landing. To solve the problem, engineers designed the assembly to cut off the parachute, and use rockets for the final part of the landing sequence.

About 60 feet (18 m) above the surface, MSL's "skycrane" deployed. The landing assembly dangled the rover below the rockets using a 20-foot (6 m) tether. Falling at 1.5 mph (2.4 kph), MSL gently touched the ground about the same moment the skycrane severed the link and flew away, crashing into the surface.

NASA personnel tensely watched the rover's descent on live television. When they received confirmation that Curiosity was safe, engineers pumped fists and jumped up and down in jubilation.

News of the landing spread through social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, and traditional outlets such as newspapers and television. One engineer became famous because of the Mohawk he sported on landing day.

PRIMARY MISSION: CAN, OR COULD, MARS SUPPORT LIFE?

Curiosity's prime mission is to determine if Mars is, or was, suitable for life. While it is not designed to find life itself, the rover carries a number of instruments on board that can bring back information about the surrounding environment.

Scientists hit something close to the jackpot in early 2013, when the rover beamed back information showing that Mars had habitable conditionsin the past. Powder from the first drill samples that Curiosity obtained included the elements of sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and carbon, which are all considered "building blocks" or fundamental elements that could support life. While this is not evidence of life itself, the find was still exciting to the scientists involved in the mission.

"A fundamental question for this mission is whether Mars could have supported a habitable environment," stated Michael Meyer, lead scientist for NASA's Mars Exploration Program. "From what we know now, the answer is yes."

TOOLS FOR FINDING CLUES TO LIFE

The rover has a few tools to search for habitability. Among them is an experiment that bombards the surface with neutrinos, which would slow down if they encounter hydrogen atoms: one of the elements of water.

Curiosity's seven-foot arm can pick up samples from the surface and cook them inside the rover, sniffing the gases that come out of there and analyzing them for clues as to how the rocks and soil formed.

The Sample Analysis of Mars instrument, if it does pick up evidence of organic material, can double-check that. On Curiosity's front, under foil covers, are several ceramic blocks infused with artificial organic compounds.

Curiosity can drill into each of these blocks and place a sample into its oven to measure its composition. Researchers will then see if organics appear that were not supposed to be in the block. If so, scientists will likely determine these are organisms hitchhiking from Earth.

High-resolution cameras surrounding the rover take pictures as it moves, providing visual information that can be compared to environments on Earth. This was used when Curiosity found evidence of a streambed, for example.

Besides hunting for habitability, Curiosity has other instruments on board that are designed to learn more about the environment surrounding it. Among those goals is to have a continuous record of weather and radiation observations to determine how suitable the site would be for an eventual human mission.

Curiosity's Radiation Assessment Detector runs for 15 minutes every hour to measure a swath of radiation on the ground and in the atmosphere.

Scientists in particular are interested in measuring "secondary rays" or radiation that can generate lower-energy particles after it hits the gas molecules in the atmosphere. Gamma rays or neutrons generated by this process can cause a risk to humans.

Additionally, an ultraviolet sensor stuck on Curiosity's deck tracks radiation continuously.

The Rover Environmental Monitoring Station measures the wind's speed and chart its direction, as well as determining temperature and humidity in the surrounding air.

The rover is slated to last for at least the next two years, but some commentators say given the longevity of the Spirit and Opportunity missions, Curiosity could be around for the better part of a decade.

Curiosity ran into its first major problem in February 2013, when a computer glitch punted the roving laboratory into safe mode for a few days. The issue caused an interruption of normal science activities, but did not impact the rover's long-term health.

NASA hopes Curiosity will have the chance to climb Aeolis Mons (NASA nicknames it "Mount Sharp"), a 19,000-foot (6,000 m) mountain near the landing site, before the mission's end.
