A MOUNTAIN THAT OPENS?:
A young man, Francisco Javier Sotomayor, and some friends witnessed a strange phenomenon in the district of El Saltillo of the town of Adjuntas in April or March of 1990 from a local church. The following is his account of what happened: "At about eight o'clock in the evening, there was a power outage around Saltillo and a very bright glowing light came out of a mount and the sky above it became as bright as daytime. Then beams of lights began to come out from there, as if it were a lightning storm, but coming from the ground. When a light appeared, a saucer-shaped thing spinning around was seen falling or descending toward the ground. From the spot where it fell, a spectacle of lights emergedlike searchlights or lasers beaming upward, something like that. There's nothing electrical up there, no cables nor nothing. It was as if the ground had opened up from where the lights came out.
"It was something so beautiful and so strange that couldn't be something produced by humans. Many other people saw that when it happened. One of them was my friend Juan Luis Laracuente. What descended was like a flying saucer, but very bright, with lots of different colored lights. The predominating colors were purple and red. It was something incredible. That was my first UFO sighting, because that's what I saw a flying saucer."
What the young man described is similar to that seen by his friend Luis J. Marrero, who on the early morning hours of March 19, 1989, at about 4:00 am, while in his minivan parked in 'San Joaquin de Adjuntas', saw how the sky lit up when at the same time the electric power failed in the area.
According to Marrero, when looking to see what happened, he spotted something at the base of Vegas Arriba Mountain. Coming out from there were some powerful light beams oscillating from side to side and looked like lightning or laser beams. "It looked as if there was a hole in the ground, like an opening in the ground was discharging the rays like those seen in discotheques, but emerging from below the ground," he said.
"Suddenly I saw from where the light was coming from, something like a flying saucer, a disk, but all in red light, which flew over the mountain and headed eastward. There the light went out in Vegas Arriba Mountain, as if the hole in the ground had closed and then the same rays and lights reappeared further away next to Santa Pascuas Mountain. The same UFO appeared to enter there in the other hole and then it closed. Afterward the light reappeared again in Vegas Arriba Mountain and then at once all the lights went out and nothing else was seen, everything ended."
