American Students Question Iss Astronauts

Aboard the International Space Station, departing Expedition 33 Commander Suni Williams of NASA and Flight Engineer Kevin Ford of NASA field questions from students gathered at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum during an in-flight educational event Nov. 15. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller and NASA Associate Administrator for Education Leland Melvin were among the dignitaries in attendance for the event.More than 9,500 student participants from the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) took part in a live video downlink. The long-distance conversation took place Thursday at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington. The event was co-hosted with the Department of Education and the NATIONAL CENTER FOR EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE EDUCATION (NCESSE) and was carried live on NASA Television.In Virginia, Russell County students are on the verge of returning a student spaceflight experiment from the ISS as a aprt of SSEP Mission 2, while neighboring Wise County students are now in the down-select process for their space science experiment set to fly as a part of the SSEP Mission 3 in the spring of 2013, according to "THE VOICE".
